What is RTP and how it affects winning chances

RTP stands for Return to Player and shows the percentage of the wagered money that will be returned to the player in the long run. So if the game says RTP is 96%, then ideally you will lose 4$ for every 100$ wagered on it, but in reality in case of slots games, you will most likely lose around 30-80% of the wager for the first 100 spins and the loss amount will reduce to 10-20% if you’ll play for several hundred or even thousand spins. In case of a roulette game with a single zero you’d expect to lose 1 bet every 37 bets, but in reality you could lose all or win all, anything could happen.

So does RTP really matter then?

Well yes and no, it matters in terms of determining your chances of winning, but since you’re not playing tens or hundreds of thousands of bets, it only matters if you get lucky or not, on the small amount of bets, statistical and mathematical expectations don’t matter, you could make one spin on a slot and hit a jackpot, or make 100 spins and don’t get a single win (both of it happened to me).

Use RTP to determine if the chances of winning are good, for example, RTP for the single zero roulette is 97.3% while for the double zero roulette it’s 94.6%, so single zero roulette is definitely better to play. In case of slots, it’s harder to determine, since it only matters if a slot wants you to win or not, if it does, you’ll eventually win, if it doesn’t you’ll lose no matter what the RTP is.
